Boy Princess is a pulse-quickening tale of swords and sorcery, faraway kingdoms, and the fairest princess in all the land. Except...this is a fairy tale with a twist. When a prince's soon-to-be-bride elopes two days before their wedding, her desperate family dresses up their young son and send him to get married in her place. With his deep blue eyes and flowing blond hair (and strategically placed apples), nobody bats an eye at the pretty pubescent standing before them. But how long can he keep up the charade? Despite the odds stacked against them, the two princes share adventures and intimacies in a story filled with imagination and visual delight.

Volume 9 Chapter 5 is a separate short story - The Last Thing to Do - starring familiar characters in modern time.

BOY PRINCESS
REVIEWED BY: SANDRA SCHOLES OF ACTIVE ANIME

Due to the Princess of a kingdom eloping with a lowly stable keeper, her brother, Nicole is forced to take the identity of a Princess in order to wed the Prince of a neighbouring kingdom called Jed. The Prince who takes on this huge responsibility has all kinds of concerns about his body and distinct lack of curves which are dealt with in a very humorous way by his brothers who help him out. For all the Prince's worries, one of his brothers informs him about Jeds' lack of interest in women. His only duty is to wed a Princess to appease his family. So, clad in a tight-fitting dress with a cloak to keep him warm and his hair, now a lengthy wig woven into a plait, in the guise as a Princess meets up with the young Prince Jed who takes him away on a journey to his kingdom.

There is an element of intrigue as the Prince has attempts made on his life during the course of this story that compels the newly wed Princess to feel sorry for her husband when before she thought he was cold and unfeeling toward her. The attraction they both share for one another soon becomes a bond at first the Prince denies until later when he realizes his true feelings for the Prince in Princesses' robes.

What could have been an simple tale of two males in love within a medieval setting contains much more. Plot twists, interesting side stories about the other Princesses in the castle and the meddling apothecary who has objections about Jed becoming King. All these elements urge the reader to continue finding out the conclusion. Though this is easy to read. It also very swiftly gets to the end of the first volume and you are left wanting more.

Seyoung Kim's artwork is extremely detailed, intricate and you will get the impression a lot of work went into the creation of this first volume of nine.
There are a few romantic interludes in this, though the situations however sensual are countered with an injection of humor. There is some kissing and hugging
between the two which you will feel is necessary for the development of the characters.

IN SUMMARY:
Boy Princess is an unusual love story of a male in a female role who captures the heart of a man who did not in his wildest dreams ever think he would receive this boy instead of a woman he would have married as a duty. This is an interesting and surprising Manga which is profound. There is the idea that there is a rewarding feeling once it is read. It was well worth the read and encourages the next step to wanting to read the volumes that follow.

Read this a while ago

I read this a while ago, but what I do remember of it is pretty good. I picked up Devil's Bride and was really looking forward to a new volume in that series, but alas, no new volume has hit America yet.

So, I looked for another series by the same author. Boy Princess seemed kind of typical and a bit of a turn off, as I never really liked the idea of a girl that's really a boy in disguise.

I took a chance, and guess what? I ended up staying up all night finishing this series! What kept me reading was mostly the funniness, and the few moments that the two main characters got together. If I remember right, there was some drama and evil-plotting mixed in with the main plot, and after staying up shortly before reading Godchild, which is full of evil-plotting, I was hooked.

Some of the situations with the cross-dressing seemed ridiculous and made me wonder exactly how long one could go without someone catching some kind of hint that one wasn't the gender they were claiming to be.

This manhwa is a great read, and decently long, too! The length is just right and satisfied my need for something that wasn't just a thoughtless oneshot or two-volume short series. The art in this manhwa is also very impressive, by the way. Historical clothing is mixed in with lolita-esque fashion, and of course Korean culture. It's very refreshing.

Please do read, and see what you think.

fun and unexpected

The concept itself is hilarious to start out with. Engagements to princes or the modern day version of heirs to major firms are common in the shojo genre. But this is the first story I have ever come across where a boy gets drawn into the mix instead. The author also refuses to keep things simple, and just when you think you're about to settle down to a cutsey romance, there is another turn in the plot. The characters' emotions are realistically portrayed, and the characters are simply too complex to fall headlong into a relationship without considering the consequences. Or, if they are, the world they live in is too complex for things to work themselves out. The plot is also rife with intrigue and politics, to which love takes a back seat. The constant insertion of back story gives the sense of the story opening up both before and behind you, gradually illuminating the world in all directions. I'm only up to Volume 4, but I'm sincerely looking forward to seeing how the story progresses in the next five books.

not good enuf boring very very dry maybe you should acually ask a gay person on their opinion about male on male love that would help i think (no offence to those who are homosexual)

Not enuf love

Boy Princess kind of leaves me hanging, Jed and Nicole don't have enuf interaction, although I'm only on vol 3. I found the story line hard to follow at times and though the art is lovely at times it was hard to tell the characters apart. It's OK I hope it gets better. Cute idea.
