Somewhere in America, the Collin Prison exists where there's plenty of room free of charge for anyone who gets himself in trouble. Our protagonist Dallas Westcoast takes revenge on his father's killer, or so he thinks, but kills a wrong person and ends up in the Collin Prison: The Hotel California. A fine-looking girl Joy who really is a transgender martial arts master, a country music fanatic warden Albert, two hip-hop lovers Irving and Tom who resist the musical communism in the prison by holding fast to rap music, and a former Latin world gangster Bati Stuta are just a few members of this crazy place. These by-no-means ordinary characters work up undisturbed series of absurd and hilarious events that transcend your wildest imagination.

I'm sorry to be against the tide, but I honestly did not like this one. The artwork was substandard for my tastes, albeit they did have originality in character design.
For the most part, the blatant stereotyping and racism was too problematic for me to enjoy laughing at. If it had taken a more sarcastic tone, perhaps it may have been able to stroke my conscientiousness the right way. I mean, come on, does the black character really HAVE to have the hip-hop spouting, Black Panther-esque radicalism and maxed-out use of slang and Ebonics?? And don't get me started on the emasculated Asian male.
What I can praise about this series--because I didn't completely hate it--is that it deals with a group of people that the mainstream refuses to acknowledge as a part of society. JTK must have done a lot of research about prisons, and it shows through the pre-chapter intros. The short history lessons and facts were interesting to read about. I was also impressed by how he has Hollywood prison movies dissected down to a T.
I also enjoyed the humor that did not deal with ethics, such as the Hannibal spoof. The man sure does know how to lay down humor.
So this JTK guy's written Almost Highly Classified? No wonder I thought they both were funny. I like this book the most of all the books here. This is the funniest book I've ever read. When's the next chapter coming up?
