I was originally only going to read the free preview and the last story, as I never had read a story with a cross-dressing performer as the main character. I enjoyed the art and humor (violent humor seems to be the norm for this mangaka, but it's "comic" violence, ultimately, with happy endings), and the running theme of the Big Misunderstanding. In the first chapter, what goes on in the hairy guy's head is not reality, but we suspect that from the get-go. The Minotaur superhero story has another humorous misunderstanding, the common situation of "drank too much, woke up nekkid in bed with another guy" thing, drenched in otaku-ness and how one deals with loneliness. I had intended to skip the "incest" story (not my thang AT ALL), and it was the last one I paid for and read, but I caved in the end cause I liked the comic aspect of the other stories. It is hilarious. It's over the top brotherly love that ends up being a lot less gross than "incest" would make one think. The main story with the "battling" couple is supremely adorable, mainly cause the main character is so comically besotted and his love interest is so dependably unruffled by the antics of the over-reacting partner. I love the tree-climbing repetitive incidents. Hah. The cross-dresser's story also has its violent edge, but by the time the gigglesome aspect of "morning beard" crops up, I was totally won over by this rather unconventional couple. Very funny series of stories, and I recommend it if you like the "violent, but not realistic violence, but comic violent" sort of tales that all end well.
The intro makes it sound like an anthology of angst. It's not! If anything, Love Full of Scars is chock full of hilarious crack with adorable characters you can't help but root for. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves the genre!
I thought this was laugh out loud funny! The title made me think these were going to be serious stories but when I started reading I couldn't stop laughing. Any story that makes use of fictional action figures in compromising positions as a plot device is worth a look, especially when one of them is named "Refreshmentsman." Seriously, what does that even mean? The introduction is misleading. There is a lot of violence but comic violence: two men getting drunk and acting out action show wrestling moves, two school boys challenging each other to fights every day when they'd rather be.....you know...good times...
