This pair of daughter-in-law and mother-in-law is far from ordinary!
War is not the tragedy of the human race.
The tragedy of all mankind is the impossibility of choosing one's parents and children.
Life partners can be chosen. Not in-laws.
But rest assured, the greatest tragedy of the human race is actually entertaining! Main Street in Elysium makes an amusing satire out of our pains.
The on-going mortal combat between Noriko and her mother-in-law who take up residence on Main Street. The wacky neighbors who bring their own craziness to the set. This hairy combination creates the dark world of Elysium. Beware: it's additive.
This series was awarded the Grand Prize at the 21st Japanese Cartoonists Association Awards.

I was really excited at the start of volume 2. I couldn't imagine how the artist would keep the momentum going and keep the story funny and fresh. I was pleasantly surprised - this volume started out hilariously! Unfortunately, the second update for volume 2 found some of the exact same jokes recycled from volume 1 and it became boring pretty fast.
I hope the rest of these series goes back to the dark wit and charm that so drew me into the first volume.
I love the subtle violence and murderous intent teeming in the mother-daughter-in-law couple. I wonder if writing this manga was the author's way of venting stress from his own in-law relationships.
Main Street is such an over-the-top yet simply twisted comedy. I find the almost repetitious conversations between the mother-daughter and father-dauther pairs hilarious. And the butt-ugly fatso in the pretty woman strips? Stomach-hurting funny. I'm very excited about this new series.
Sunseaukoe, I'm right with you on this one. I have a special place in my heart for hillarious, even if sometimes unfortunate, mother in law/daughter in law interactions, and this did not disappoint! My absolute favorite moments were in the, "Call girl?" "STOP LYING!!!" scene, and all of the polite but attempted harm scenes with the daughter. "Mother, you're so kind." ROFL is right! I can totally see why this got such a prestigious award. Keep it coming! :-)
