Maria is a sweet country girl who ventures to Tokyo to honor a favor for her late grandmother. Waiting for her at her destination--the Rosy Convenience Store in Misakigaoka-- are the Tomekichi brothers, struggling with an increasingly senile grandfather, a clueless father, and a family business on the verge of bankruptcy. All seems hopeless, until one day Maria turns up on their doorstep--to the dismay of one brother in particular. To complicate matters, there are moody customers, ever-present food issues, and a shady inspector ready to strike at any moment.
Will Maria be able to help save this little convenience store? Or is it doomed to fold?
A fun story that deals with life, love, and lunch, "Maria, The Convenience Store Girl" will make you feel warm inside--and maybe even a bit hungry!

Well its over . . . and I'll be sorry to not have these simple amusing stories to read , no books either ! Perhaps a few months down the road a re-read may seem fresh .
But to not tell Maria to protect grandpa's sin ? Seems what Japan has done to ALL of their "efforts" during the war . Just hope Tatsuro and Maria never . . . oh , yeah , first cousins OK in Japan . . .
Is it just me , or . . . page 3/43 of Vol4 Chap4 has nothing to do w/ the beach story . Seems it probably belongs to the story about Eiichi's ex-wife & son . . . if I wanted to spend some e-cash I would go back and see if it helps that chapter make more sense .
BTW : take back my comment last time about no fanservice . . . not the best , but . . . wish Maria had a few brains , hmmm , perhaps by working at 'Rosy' it makes her see the world thru rose colored glasses ?
Super funny, in a sad way, about the dude in love with Maria who thinks that he is suddenly her groom to be. Oh, manchildren. When will you ever learn? Cute chapter!
Well . . . the story isn't too deep . . . many characters aren't getting fleshed out very far . . . most plotlines become almost totally predictable . . . not much fanservice (though the opportunity is there) . . . I do like the style of the artwork . . . there are odd twists that pop up unexpectedly . . . and Maria DID look cute in her HS sailor outfit ^_^""
So I think I'll keep reading . . . might even buy it if it ever came out printed just as a quick pick me up .
A business woman is so stressed that she's eating junk food hand-over-fist but the solution to all her problems is to take a hot bath every night? Maria is the model that saves this no-name photographer from a life of anonymity? Oh puhleez!!
I can no longer dredge up any happy, feel good, lovey-lovey feelings for this cheesy mush-mush story. And I am tired of characters that seem mildly interesting disappearing from the story after one chapter! What happened to the little brother's bandmate who originally wanted to get an abortion in the first volume? Or the rich woman Maria coerced into going to the public baths because she had no friends and no life (is that her solution to everything?). Or the regional guy who wanted to close the shop until Maria swayed him with an impromptu visit to his home in the middle of the night in wet clingy clothes with a birthday cake?
Let's bring in some longterm characters and have a real conflict that spans several chapters and actually involves developing a real plot. I'm tired of everything being resolved at the end of each chapter like an episode of Scooby Doo.
*sigh* I guess this just isn't that type of story.
